The Right Solutions for Grass Maintenance

0

In order to bring the right dose of fertilizer, in the right place and at the right time, you need to be able to distribute the fertilizers perfectly throughout the plot. This makes it possible to make the most of them while reducing its costs and its impact on the environment.

A farmer adjusts his spreader

In this perspective, the spreading must be precise, uniform, and the spreading technique adapted to these fertilizers. Adjusting the spreader is therefore a must. It is linked to the type of products used because it varies depending on the physical characteristics of these products. Overall, there are three criteria to take into account when setting up the spreader: working width, throughput and fertilizer distribution. Here are a few tips. For the épandeur de compost this is important.

Increase the overlap width to optimize the working width

The working width is the distance between two adjacent passages of the dispensing device. In general, to adjust the spreader so that it is optimal, the first reflex to have is of course to consult the manufacturer’s instructions since each device has its specificities. Please note that the paper instructions are generally usable up to 3 or 4 years after the purchase of the machine. After this period, the information must be updated because the fertilizers are subject to changes. It is sometimes easier to refer to the manufacturer’s website. In addition to this essential technical information, there are some good practices to put in place.

First, identify the fertilizer used. This identification can be done by measuring the physical characteristics of this fertilizer, or by analogy using photos present in the adjustment table. It is best to use fertilizers of known origin with good physical characteristics.

  • Then you have to make the overlap width as wide as possible. For example, when spreading 36m with an ammonitrate-type granule, the projection is made over 72m (36m to the right and 36m to the left). The advantages of a large overlap width are as follows:
  • It offers ease of control in the plot. It is necessary to visually check the presence of some granules in the tramline. If present, it means the width setting is adequate.
  • Significant overlap limits sensitivity to adjustment errors (speed of the discs, height, inclination of the machine, etc.) and to ambient parameters (wind, relief, etc.)
  • As a reminder, when the farmer increases his working width, he must still ensure that the spreader is able to adapt to the desired width (that the blades are long enough, for example).

Adapt the flow to the forward speed

The flow must always be adapted to the speed of advance of the machine. Depending on its physical characteristics or weather conditions, the fertilizer does not flow at the same speed. If your machine is new, it should be able to manage this change in behavior because the electronic system constantly analyzes how the fertilizer flows and adjusts the position of the hatches in order to keep the programmed dose. But it is advisable to do tests to make sure.
